We started the month of March on a high note because it meant the beginning of Kids Month (VBS)! We had invited kids, decorated, scheduled volunteers, and prayed that the teaching of God’s word would change lives. We have several kids join us for the very first time and had three amazing weeks of the program. Then everythingchanged because COVID-19 had arrived in Colombia. What began as a four day trial quarantine, quickly turned into a country wide lockdown. Ministry and everyday life had completely changed as we were restricted from going outside.
We moved our Sunday service and children’s ministry to an online format. It’s been encouraging to see our people adjust to doing church online and we have had many first time visitors during our virtual services! Our teachers have done a great job preparing and video taping their lessons so that the children can continue to learn from home. We partnered with a humanitarian organization and used the church as a base to receive and assemble food baskets. Those food baskets were then passed out to families within the community and to several families within our church. With a humble heart, I would like to ask for you or your church to please consider a one time offering to go towards the purchase of more food baskets. By providing families with basic food necessities, we are able to continue ministering to our community especially during this economic hardship.
We wanted to take advantage of the extra time people have at home so we began Bible academy classes, (a deep dive into a Bible topic), two different small groups, and even group video calls with the kids in our children’s ministry. The Colombian President continues to extend our quarantine, so we will continue to wait until that day comes when we can gather together again. I’ve had my share of ups and downs over these last few months as living by myself can become lonely, but I’m thankful for the lessons God is teaching me through all of this. Please continue to pray for myself, my teammates, and our Colombian leadership as we strive to point other to Christ during this difficult time.
Thank you for all the prayers and financial support!
Your missionary in Colombia,
Ali Alexander
